Many European organisations finance and run projects in Antarctica, including the European Union (EU) and the European External Action Service (EEAS). In these pages, we will hear from people involved in these projects – what they do and why their work matters for Antarctica, Europe and the wider world. Our first interview (in French) is with Didier Schmitt, an immunologist and doctor, who explains the link between his work for EEAS and Antarctica.
In our second interview (in French), geophysicist Nicolas Bergeot explains his work with GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and its value for society, and how it led him to a scientific stay at the Belgian Antarctic base Princesse Elisabeth.
Celia Sapart is our third interviewee (in French). As a climatologist and glaciologist, Celia’s research into greenhouse emissions and the ice sheets has taken her on amazing journeys including a voyage to Antarctica on an ice-breaker during the polar winter.
