March of Penguins to support calls for world’s biggest wildlife reserve

Greenpeace has begun 2018 with the March of the Penguins. Model penguins have appeared in cities all over the world to promote its campaign to support calls to create the world’s biggest wildlife reserve in Antarctica.

The proposal was originally put forward by the EU, which presented a request for a marine protected area (MPA) in the Antarctic Weddell Sea to the International Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) in 2016. Despite difficulties in reaching international agreement, Greenpeace wants to put renewed energy behind this ambitious project.
